West Yorkshire motorway is nation's slowest

Leeds and West Yorkshire are home to two of the UK's slowest motorways.

Research has revealed that the M606 in Bradford has the slowest average speeds in the country, with drivers reaching just 24mph on a typical journey.

The M621 in Leeds was in fourth spot, with an average speed of only 26mph. Two other major routes through Yorkshire, the M62 and M1, averaged 39mph and 43mph respectively.

The results were calculated by RAM Tracking, which fitted speed monitors in commercial vehicles using the national motorway network.
