Ball explains Rishies exit

Ball, the former rugby league professional, has overseen a remarkable transformation over the last three seasons, turning Rishies from Yorkshire Three also-rans into an established Yorkshire Two side.

But with a young family and increasing responsibilities in his day job as a teacher at Brooksbank School, Ball has made the choice to step aside.

“I have had a great three years with a great group of people, but I can’t continue to give the job the commitment it needs,” said Ball, who played for York, Hull KR, Dewsbury and Halifax during a 14-season professional career.

“I’ve two young children, a busy job and something has to give. It’s been three seasons of progress and I’m proud of everything we achieved in that time.

“We got promoted in year one, finished with 56 points in Yorkshire Two in the second year and we’ve already got 58 points this season.

“If results go our way, we could end up finishing sixth this year.

“I genuinely hope the club find someone who can build on where they are now and take them to the next level.”

None of Calderdale’s six rugby union clubs were in first team action yesterday.
