Calderdale Council Tour Makers get ready to be part of historic event

Calderdale Council employees are getting geared up to be a special part of the Tour de France this weekend.

Over a dozen employees have been selected as Tour makers to help support the race on Saturday and Sunday.

The 12,000 Tour Makers will be helping out throughout the weekend, on and off the route, to make sure the event runs smoothly.

They will be helping out with creating road crossings, at transportation hubs and helping out where ever is needed at a variety of places around Yorkshire.

The Leader of Calderdale Council, Cllr Tim Swift, said:“The Tour Makers across Yorkshire will be welcoming millions of spectators and representing the county over the weekend of the race.

“I’m pleased that so many Calderdale Council employees have chosen to volunteer, it’s great that they, and all the other Tour Makers, are able to be involved in this once in a lifetime event.”

After being chosen for the role, the Tour Makers attended orientation events and received role training to suit their needs throughout the day in June.

Ted Ashman, countryside officer at Calderdale Council, is going to be based Holmfirth on Sunday.

Ted, said: “I am looking forward to the sheer atmosphere of being a part of the event.”

Jane Dary, senior finance officer at Calderdale Council, will be based in Sheffield on the weekend and is excited to be volunteering as a Tour Maker.

Jane, said: “It’s just getting to be a part of Yorkshire’s biggest cycling event.”
