The paceman, who had a drawn a blank in the defeat by leaders Pudsey St Lawrence the previous weekend, took five for 18 to help his side to a 75-run win.

East Bierley were bowled out for 145 in reply to eighth-placed Lightcliffe’s 218 for seven, which included 63 from overseas player Suleman Khan and 45 from captain Alex Stead.

Barkisland were put to the sword by Slaithwaite’s Australian batsman Matthew Bremner in the Huddersfield League.

The opener made 135 to help the visitors to 285 for seven and Barkisland crumbled to 169 all out in reply against their lowly opponents.

The continued good form of young batsman Luke Bridges (46) was the only bright point for the home side.

Elland also had a day to forget. They were bowled out for 107 in reply to hosts Shepley’s 192 for nine, Alastair Finn taking three for 48.

Illingworth dropped to fifth in Division Two of the Aire/Wharfe League after a heavy defeat at Pool, who have started the season well.

Luke Brooksby took a wicket with the first ball of the match and Jamie Moorhouse accounted for Australian Jake Zsilinszky to leave the hosts rocking on 40 for three.

A partnership of 78 steadied the ship, although chances were missed in the field.

Tosh Baker, dropped on 30 before surviving a loud caught behind appeal on 75, smashed an unbeaten 143 from just 134 balls in a total of 225.

Moorhouse was the pick of the bowlers with four for 62 in windy conditions.

In reply, Illingworth found themselves 14 for five after 10 overs, thanks to a lively opening spell from Pool’s David Amos.

Worse was to come when ex-Jer Lane bowler Sam Wilson removed New Zealander Danny Gibbs, and at 48 for seven the game was up.

Moorhouse hit a quick 40 off 37 balls but Illingworth were all out for 85.

Todmorden suffered a second successive Twenty/20 group defeat when they were bowled out for only 68 at East Lancashire on Friday.

Only Kristian Garland (23) and Ben Pearson (15) made any impact with the bat for the visitors against home captain Mark Bolton (three for 10) and professional JP de Villiers (three for six).

East Lancs were 25 for three and 51 for five but then eased home with 3.4 overs in hand.

Walsden maintained their good start to the Central Lancashire League season with a Jake Hooson-inspired victory over Royton in a game affected stoppages for poor weather.

Hooson made 73 not out, having earlier taken a couple of wickets, to help James Rawlinson’s side to a reduced target and a four-wicket win at Scott Street.

Walsden had made it three out of three in the Twenty/20 competition on Friday, almost certainly guaranteeing themselves progress from the group stages with one game left.

Joe Gale hit an unbeaten 58 in their 150 for three. Hosts Milnrow looked likely to chase that down at one stage but fell away to 128 for nine.
