Barkisland beaten in final

Barkisland were unable to cause an upset in yesterday’s Huddersfield League Twenty/20 final at Broad Oak but skipper Darren Robinson was not too disappointed.

Barkisland made 134 against Hoylandswaine with 39 from the captain and 34 from Seth Oddy.

As the Calderdale side had feared, that was insufficient, although the league leaders only won with eight balls to spare.

“We bowled and fielded very well but we didn’t get enough runs,” said Robinson.

“We were massive underdogs. There were 400 or 500 people there and they were all behind us.

Hoylandswaine had scored 258 and 299 in previous matches this year and Robinson added: “They are a big-hitting team and it was a good performance from us to take them all the way.”
