Copley’s good run continues

Copley followed up Sunday’s Parish Cup semi-final success at Warley by beating Sowerby St Peters to earn another day in the spotlight.

Copley made 164 for three in 20 overs and Sowerby fell one run short on 163 for six.

Sowerby are believed to have needed 18 off the final over and got close with the help of a couple of sixes.

Copley will play Southowram, who beat Wibsey Park Chapel in the only game to be completed the previous Tuesday.

Calder Valley rivals Mytholmroyd and Booth will meet in the other semi-final at SBCI.

Mytholmroyd completed victory over holders Thornton. ‘Royd made 236 last week and Thornton were limited to 178 for five last night.

Booth ensured that there will be no clean sweep of the first team trophies for Jer Lane, who are top of the league and through to the Parish Cup final.

Jer Lane made 153 all out and Booth responded with 155 for three.

Second team medium swing bowler Jon Midgley has been Booth’s trump card with the ball in the Twenty/20 and he took four wickets.

Jordan Laban and Paul Chapman gave Lane a decent start and Raqeeb Younas and Jason Gelder also made around the 30-mark.

Chris Shannon was out to the first ball of Booth’s reply but Rob Laycock made 50 retired and Patrick Thomas, Richard Laycock and Jack Heptonstall all made useful contributions as the home side knocked off the runs in 12 overs.

Barkisland are through to the final of the Huddersfield League’s Twenty/20 competition after an impressive 103-run home win over Kirkburton last night.

The Woodfield side powered to 188 for three with the help of an unbeaten 96 from Aussie LJ Brown

Ben Westwood and Callum Thompson each took three wickets as Kirkburton only mustered 85 in reply.

Hoylandswaine were meeting Skelmanthorpe in the other last four game and the final is at Broad Oak on the same day as the climax to the Halifax League competition.
