Halifax Cricket League cancels annual awards dinner

The ENCO Halifax Cricket League Executive has taken the early decision to cancel its Annual Dinner and Awards Presentation Dinner, scheduled for Friday 27 November 2020.

The decision has been taken due to the current Covid-19 pandemic still having substantial UK Government restrictions applying nationwide, with additional ones currently in Calderdale where the event is held. It is considered highly unlikely that all of those will be lifted by November to allow seating for 230 plus, unrelated, persons to gather closely at a single venue.

Given the above the Executive believes that it would be foolhardy to continue to plan for, reserve a venue and continue to incur expense when it will not be allowed to take place.

Even if such an event was to take place then it would be a diluted affair as an important part of the evening is the awards ceremony which, due to the truncated cricket season, would be reduced by 95 per cent.

Also if the event was allowed to go ahead it is also almost certain that the attendance figure would be severely reduced, as it is believed that a substantial number of potential attendees would not have the confidence to join a large close gathering due to genuine fears still existing regarding Covid-19.
