Inter-league games called off

Halifax had been due to play two Twenty/20 games to decide who should progress to the final of two competitions, the West Yorkshire Area Knockout Cup and the Yorkshire inter-league Nixon Trophy.

However, league official Geoff Wright got a phone call at 11.05am to say the ground at Carlton Towers CC was unfit for play after Saturday’s rain.

Halifax and York will attempt to find another suitable date but that may not be easy with cup final season approaching.

Halifax have Twenty/20 finals day at SBCI next Sunday and then the Parish Cup final between Copley and Jer Lane seven days later.

Several members of the league side are involved in those events.

Wright said he had suggested sharing the spoils with York, settling for one semi-final ‘win’ each, and the ball was now back in York’s court.

Todmorden professional Michael Neser put on a super show to help his side to a 43-run home win over third-placed Enfield in the Lancashire League yesterday.

The Australian made 101, following up his 122 not out at Nelson the previous weekend, to help Todmorden post 241 for five at Centre Vale.
He moved past 700 runs for the season with the help of 10 fours and five sixes.

Neser, whose main backing came from opener Simon Newbitt (52), was far from finished.

The paceman followed up with five for 37 as Enfield were dismissed for 198, his victims including visiting pro Werner Coetsee for 50.
