Jer Lane and Thornton through

Two games were completed in the first round of the Halifax Parish Cup yesterday with big guns Jer Lane and Thornton making progress against lower-division opposition.

They banished any fears of a bowl-out lottery next Sunday by getting their matches played in spite of the wet weather.

Holders Jer Lane bowled out Outlane for 100 with four wickets from Nasir Chowdrey and Simon Collins’s three for seven off nine overs.

Lane knocked off the runs for the loss of two wickets in 10 overs, Jordan Laban making 68 not out.

Thornton were seven for three away to Wibsey Park Chapel on the former county ground at Bradford Park Avenue.

Ross Soames and Mick Shanks started the recovery before the Hutchinsons, Nick and Josh, took over.

The pair had run in the Leeds Half Marathon in the morning and were batting lower down the order than normal.

Nick made 58 not out and Josh’s 42 included three huge sixes.

Josh then took a wicket in the first over and Wibsey never recovered, being bowled out for 46.

Joe Blencowe and Mark Clayton took four wickets each with Clayton, who took nine wickets for the seconds on the same ground at the end of last season, remarking that he would like to to roll up the wicket and take it to his next port of call.

Triangle seconds won at Denholme Clough in the Crossley Shield.
