President David Normanton, secretary Neil Myers and chairman Anthony Briggs will suffer the ordeal at Blackley CC at 10am.

Hamer, a Halifax League umpire and a well-known figure in local cricket circles for many years, has been diagnosed with motor neurone disease and needs to spend £2,000 converting his home so he can continue to live with his family.

When the league’s executive heard about Phil’s plight and the ice bucket challenge was suggested, the officers volunteered immediately to raise funds for Hamer and the charity.

All Halifax League clubs have been asked to support the cause by donating to treasurer Bob Airey.

Briggs said: “When one of your own from the family of cricket is in need then you do all you can to help.”

He added that he didn’t expect there to be a shortage of volunteers willing to tip the bucket!
