Narrow defeat for Todmorden

Todmorden suffered a six-run defeat to Bacup in a 33 overs a-side Lancashire League match at Centre Vale yesterday.

Tod’s former player Adam Highley anchored Bacup’s innings, batting through for 57 not out as the visitors totalled 154 for four. He added 83 for the second wicket with Tim Farragher (47).

Elliott Gilford picked up a couple of late wickets.

Todmorden struggled to score off professional Haseeb Azam (two for 54 off 15) but Kristian Garland (38), stand-in pro Timm van der Gugten (19), Gilford (18) and Ben Sutcliffe (18) kept the home side in the hunt.

Skipper Andrew Sutcliffe spearheaded Tod’s late effort with 25 not out but, needing 25 from three overs, 18 from two and 13 off the last, the home side fell short.

Brighouse bowed out of the Bradford League’s Priestley Cup with a 50-run defeat away to fellow Division Two side Bowling Old Lane.

Brighouse were unable to contain Lane batsmen Ahsan Butt (60), Takir Khan (52) and Ayyuz Akram (49) who helped their side to 239 for eight off 40 overs.

Sohail Khan stroked 72 in reply but the visitors never really threatened to get close to the home total.
