The Scott Street side beat visitors Werneth by eight wickets after spinners Umesh Karunaratne and Richard Sladdin had undermined the visitors’ innings.

Werneth were 63 for one until Sri Lankan Karunaratne and ex-county player Sladdin took three wickets each.

The final five Werneth wickets fell with the total on 124 as Joe Gale (two for five) helped wrap up the innings.

Walsden lost Jake Hooson without a run on the board but James Rawlinson put the issue beyond doubt with 87, being run out with only 16 more required for victory as he look to retain the strike in the search for a century.

Todmorden were unable to complete a weekend double, losing by 54 runs at Ramsbottom in the Lancashire League.

Home professional Daryn Smit made 47 and then took seven for 29 to put the skids under Andrew Sutcliffe’s side.

Ramsbottom, sent in to bat, had a 94-run opening stand between Tom Parton (56) and Dale Gabriel (35) on the way to a useful total of 223 for six. Tod professional Michael Neser took four for 66.

Simon Newbitt (24) and Ben Sutcliffe (30) put on 52 for the visitors’ first wicket but Smit steadily worked his way through the middle order and Paul Senior’s 31 not out only saved some face for Tod, who finished on 169 for eight.

Elland and Barkisland also suffered a reversal of fortunes yesterday in the Huddersfield League.

Barkisland bounced back from Saturday’s heavy defeat at Shepley with victory over Holmfirth, who had lost by 10 wickets to Elland 24 hours earlier.

Elland were unable to make it a weekend double when undone by their former player Craig Fletcher at Delph and Dobcross.

LJ Brown hit 131 and skipper Darren Robinson 53 as Barkisland piled up 249 for seven at Holmfirth.

It was almost a one-man show for the home side, Sam Denton following up his five wickets for 88 with an unbeaten 80 as Holmfirth replied with 166 for seven.

Fletcher took five for 77 but 205 for eight still looked likely to be a winning score for Elland when Jack Hendy picked up three early wickets to leave Delph 22 for four.

However, Fletcher made an unbeaten 52 and figured in useful stands with Arron Lilley (50) and Jamshad Ahmad (56) as the home side recovered to win by four wickets.
