Runs and wickets for Tod’s Neser

New professional Michael Neser was in sensational form as Todmorden got a Lancashire League win on the board yesterday with a four-wicket success over Burnley at Centre Vale.

Born in South Africa but living in Australia, Neser took six for 48 and then hit an unbeaten 76 to lead his team to revised target of 185 from 47 overs.

Todmorden had looked set for an easier win. However, Michael Brown’s 63 not out lifted Burnley’s total from 79 for six to 194 for seven. He and Steve Brunt (38) put on 106 but Big Bash player Neser was the dominant force.

Lightcliffe were beaten in a nail-bitting finish to their home top-section Bradford League match against Farsley.

The visitiors’ last pair, wicketkeeper Matthew Green and last man Matthew Lumb, picked up the 11 runs they needed to overhaul Lightcliffe’s 182 for six and snatch the narrowest of victories.

Former skipper Jonathan Wilson top scored with 55, who added 85 for the fifth wicket with Josh Wheatley (32).

Left-arm spinner Chris Greenwood picked up the wicket of ex-Yorkshire man Joe Sayers for 37 when Farsley replied and he went on to take five for 51.

However, Farsley won with an over to spare to maintain their fine start to the season.

Brighouse went down to a four-wicket defeat at the hands of derby rivals Hartshead Moor in Division Two.

The home side, sent in to bat, only mustered 115 with Chris Page’s 25 the top score. Danny Squire (five for 30) and Adil Ladak (three for 19) did the damage.

Moor were 38 for three but Fahad Ul-haq (31) and Craig Field (30) helped see Moor to victory.

Northowram Fields got off the mark for the season at the second attempt at home to Buttershaw St Pauls in the Central Yorkshire League’s Championship Division.

In a game reduced to 38 overs per side, newcomer Saj Mahmood hit 92 to spur the hosts to a useful 211 for five.

Mahmood came in at number three and hit one particularly big six over the pavilion, although he did ride his luck at times.

John Lister made a fluent 31 and ex-Triangle player Christian Silkstone got his eye in with 27.

Elland got off the mark for the season in the Huddersfield League with a stunning 10-wicket win for their new-look side at Holmfirth.

The home side took 45 overs in making 76 all out after the previous day’s rain, Jack Hendy taking three wickets and opening partner Wasim Qasim doing the same when brought back to clean up the tail.

Jonathan Das (49 no) and Fahid Rehman (22 no) then made a mockery of Holmfirth’s earlier labours by knocking off the runs in 12.1 overs.
