Shannon helps Lane win key game

Skipper Mick Hustler hit the winning boundary through mid-wicket with seven deliveries to spare.

Mytholmroyd were left to rue some slipshod fielding, having made a game of it after an unpromising start.

The visitors were 40 for four and 96 for seven but managed to post a total of 204 thanks to Adie Gawthrope’s 70 and Spencer Harris’s unbeaten 50. Nasir Chowdrey finished with five for 56.

Lane looked to be cruising to victory as openers Chris Shannon and Andrew Pinfield took them into the nineties but Gawthrope made the breakthrough by dismissing Pinfield.

Lane slipped to 114 for three and it could have been worse, three easy chances going down in the field.

Shannon benefitted and the left hander was closing in on a century when he was trapped leg before.

Lane were left needing 16 off three overs and Hustler and Paul Chapman were up to the task as their side bounced back from a first defeat of the season, at the hands of Triangle, the previous week.

Hustler’s men lead by three points from Booth, who cruised to an eight-wicket win at Blackley thanks to Rob Laycock’s 134.

Laycock dominated an opening stand of 175 with Rob Worsnop (46) as Booth made light of chasing the home side’s 213 for nine.

Sowerby Bridge’s Sam Mellor is in the league side for his bowling but showed his prowess with the bat as his side beat visitors Thornton by 87 runs.

Mellor made 72 not out to add to 62s from Tim Helliwell and Nick Whitehill as Bridge totalled 284 for four at Walton Street.

Spinner Jake Dixon’s six for 45 dismissed Thornton for 189, number four Mick Shanks being left high and dry on 64 not out.

Triangle maintained their excellent run with a crushing 170-run victory over lowly Southowram.

Carl Fletcher hit 88 and then gave way to Christian Silkstone, who had nine sixes in his 104 as Triangle racked up 305 for nine.

The Rams folded from 109 for two to 135 all out.

Mark Baldwin’s unbeaten 84 saw Copley to a six-wicket home win over Warley.

Nolan Bottomley had made 97 and Graham Kinsey 63 in the visitors’ 233 for eight, a total reduced to 218 by rain. Both of Warley’s top scorers fell to four-wicket Oliver Thorpe.

SBCI were grateful to three players - Simon Wood, Robin Hanson and Jamie Sykes - for their 74 run home win over Queensbury.

Wood made 73 out of their total of 144, the last six wickets falling for the addition of only three runs.

However, opening bowlers Hanson (six for 27) and Sykes (four for 35) ran through Queensbury’s suspect batting line-up for 71, Bradley Osbourne scoring 41 of them.

Revenge was quick and sweet for the winners of all four games in Division One.

They had all lost to the same opponents seven days earlier.

Bridgeholme’s stay at the top was brief when Northowram Hedge Top won by five wickets at Eastwood.

The home side posted 251 for eight, thanks mainly to a seventh wicket stand of 113 between Chris Kibble (70) and Ollie Challis (61).

Bridgeholme looked poised to follow up the previous week’s four wicket success when they reduced the Rams to 21 for three and 132 for five.

However, Sam Gardner followed up his four wickets with an unbeaten 84 and he and Adam Stocks (81 no) figured in a superb stand to carry the visitors to victory with a couple of overs to spare.

Sowerby St Peters went back to the top when spinner Martin Schofield (six for 25) and Matty Hoyle (four for 40) bowled out hosts Oxenhope for 101.

Sowerby had earlier posted 188, Ryan Brook making 69 at the top of the order but seven of his teammates perishing at the hands of Liam Dyson.

Oxenhope had won at Sowerby by 13 runs the previous week.

Stones’ Kevin O’Rourke scored well for the second week running against Low Moor.

He top scored with 87 in the Ripponden side’s 188 for eight but Moor replied impressively, Mark Stokes’ 62 not out giving the home side a six wicket win to avenge a defeat by the same margin.

Bradshaw had lost by 17 runs at Luddenden Foot but they won the rematch by an 88-run margin.

A stand of 169 for the fifth wicket between experienced Steve Beck (89) and Lee Broadbent (104) proved decisive as Bradshaw posted a formidable 269 for eight.

Jack Ryan’s four for 20 polished off Foot for 181 with Gareth Hall (47) the visitors’ top scorer.

Great Horton Park Chapel joined Cullingworth at the top of Division Two after the pair had contrasting fortunes.

Chapel won by four wickets at Denholme Clough while Cullingworth lost by nine runs at home to Clayton.

Clough just managed to bank maximum batting points, losing their last wicket on 180.

Chapel recovered from a perilous 61 for five to win comfortably, thanks to Amaar Syed (65 no) and Matthew Jordan (47).

John Jonas made 63 and number 10 Matthew Roe hit 35 as Clayton scored 242 at Cullingworth. The hosts fell just short thanks to visiting pair Paul Gelder (five for 55) and Andrew Windle (four for 57).

Outlane are level on points with Clayton, just two behind the leading pair, after an impressive display from their top order batsmen at home to Shelf.

Lee Mellor (76), Alex Blagborough (51), Chris Brook (54) and Andrew Holding (63) were all able to raise their bats to their appreciative teammates as Outlane piled up 305 for nine.

Babar Malik’s 74 kept Outlane waiting but Shelf were all out for 198.

Opener Luke Harrington’s 58 not out guided Upper Hopton to a victory target of 118 away to Greetland, the league newcomers winning by eight wickets.

Old Crossleyans survived a scare to keep visitors Old Town pinned to the foot of the league.

James Yates hit 68 as Town posted 189 after being 162 for three with James Yates’ 68 the top contribution. Harry Reynolds blew away their tail and finished with six for 45.

The Broomfield men looked up against it at 84 for five but Qamar Ayub (55 no) and Asad Mukhtar (54 no) figured in a century stand to win it for Crocs.
