Hutchinson crashed a superb unbeaten 207 as Thornton won by 19 runs away to champions Jer Lane while Belfield took nine for 76 to help Southowram gain a first win of the season at home to Blackley.

Thornton were struggling on 44 for three when Hutchinson came to the crease. He produced some phenomenal hitting, alongside opener Chris Ramsden (51) at first, to send the scoreboard spiralling up to 331 for eight.

Leaders Lane made a bold bid to chase down their huge target with the help of 121 from Wayne Cotton, who played for Thornton last season.

However, they had to settle for 312 for eight with Hutchinson still having the energy to bowl 17 overs and take three for 95.

Opening bowler Belfield cut through the Blackley ranks in fine style, Gavin Moody foiling his bid for all 10 by taking by taking the sixth Blackley wicket to fall.

The visitors were all out for 148, in spite of 62 from skipper Reece Jennison, and the Rams wrapped up a six-wicket win with the help of 54 from opener Ian Hall.

Blackley slipped into the bottom two because Queensbury were 85-run home winners over Warley in a game reduced to 43 overs per side.

Dan Syme’s five for 42 limited ‘Bury to 196 but Warley folded from 48 for two to 111 not out with spinner Girdev Singh adding another five wickets to his tally.

Booth were unable to take advantage of Jer Lane’s slip after a six-run defeat at home to Sowerby Bridge.

Moazzam Ayub did his best to be their match-winner for the second week running but the number 10 batsman was out for 22 with victory in touching distance.

Bridge made 237 with Chris Whitehill’s 53 their top score and Jake Dixon did the rest, the spinner taking six for 69 and bowling Moazzam in the penultimate over to clinch victory.

Booth were joined in second spot by their Calder Valley rivals Mytholmroyd, who had a comfortable 55-run win at SBCI.

Wajid Ali (61) rolled back the years as opener in absence of Steve Senior as ‘Royd totalled 203 for nine.

Jack Earle and James Cowens then took five wickets apiece, Chris Dalby (52) and Dan Keighley (38) getting the lion’s share of SBCI’s runs.

Copley climbed to sixth thanks to an unbroken 120-run four-wicket partnership between Mark Baldwin (73 no) and Nick Gomersal (58 no), which carried them past visitors Triangle’s 182 for nine.

Division One leaders Sowerby St Peters looked likely to lose at Bridgeholme when they faltered at 96 for seven in reply to the Eastwood side’s 258 for six.

However, Gavin Hayes (83 no) and Matt Hoyle (82 no) saw them through to victory with plenty of overs to spare, adding 166.

The highlight of the first half had been a similar unbroken stand of 135 from skipper Chris Kibble (77 no) and James Peavoy (64 no).

Darren Hopkinson had scored plenty of runs for Oxenhope down the years and he added another 176 in his side’s 102-run home win over Luddenden Foot.

He hit 28 fours and three sixes as Oxenhope piled up 200 for nine, Isaac Baldwin replying with 55 in Foot’s 198 all out.

Chris Conroy led from the front for title contenders Northowram Hedge Top in an easy eight-wicket home win over Stones.

The skipper hit 115 not out and Adam Stocks 56 not out as the Rams cantered past the Ripponden side’s 220, Anthony Briggs hitting 55 and Raz Saghir taking five for 85 in the first half of the contest.

Low Moor’s Nick Wood took six for 45 as visitors Bradshaw suffered more batting blues.

Dean Cotton’s visitors could only muster 80, with experienced Steve Beck getting 35 of them, and Moor went on to register an eight-wicket success.

Old Crossleyans were double-quick winners at Greetland in Division Two, notching a 10-wicket win in a contest which only lasted 26 overs.

Harry Reynolds (six for eight) and Jacob Linsel (four for 25) routed Greetland for 40 with the extras the only double-figure contributor to the total.

Anjam Hussain (28 no) and Rizwan Manir (7 no) rounded off a good day for the Broomfield visitors, who went top of the table.

Previous leaders Outlane were thrashed by 197 runs at home to Great Horton Park Chapel.

Their bowlers were mauled by Adam Beesley (118) and Amaar Syed (148), who added 278 for the third wicket before both departed to Anwar Shaukatt.

Chapel racked up 349 for five and Zuber Patel’s five for 41 ensured Outlane only managed a couple of batting points at 152 all out in reply.

Steve Welch’s 109 helped Cullingworth keep Old Town pinned to the foot of the league while Richard Ramsden’s eight for 46 spurred Shelf to a four-wicket win at Denholme Clough.

Fifth-wicket pair Tim Shackleton (49 no) and John Jonas (53 no) combined to tip the scales firmly Clayton’s way at home to Upper Hopton.

Up to then it had been a fairly even contest with Clayton 48 for three at one stage in pursuit of Hopton’s 155.
