10-man Brighouse beaten again

Instead, Pollard’s dismissal for a second bookable offence set them on the road to a 4-3 defeat away to the NPL Division One North strugglers.

Brighouse were 1-0 up at that stage, Danny Facey having given the visitors the lead on six minutes after breaking the offside trap.

Daniel Parkinson levelled for the Greater Manchester side on 32 minutes and the shell-shocked visitors conceded twice more before half time to William Hassler-Cregg and a Tim Wallace own goal when a shot ricochetted in off him.

Martin Allison got Brighouse back in the hunt, making it 3-2 on 53 minutes, but Hassler-Cregg bagged his second approaching the mid-way point of the second half and Facey’s second in stoppage time was too late to make any difference.

A promising season is threatening to slip away for Brighouse, who are now 13th in the table.

They host 16th-placed Kendal Town at home on Monday and manager Paul Quinn will be anxious to beat the Cumbrians, who lost 5-0 at home to Northwich Victoria on Saturday, all the goals coming in the opening 35 minutes.
