We spoke to Joseph Pope from the Off The Line blog, who covers the EFL and non-league football, for his suggestions on who The Shaymen might bring in.
5. Owen Oseni
The Shaymen signed striker Adan George from Rushall Olympic and so they quite clearly watch that level of football, and in particular Rushall Olympic. Thus, one player that they could look at trying to bring The Shay on loan is Owen Oseni. Oseni is on the books of Derby County, but the youngster forward spent last season out on loan with Liam McDonald's Rushall Olympic and impressed during his time in the National League North. The Rams will likely want to send him to a higher level next term, and so the fifth tier with The Shaymen would give him that. Stylistically, Oseni is a powerful and athletic forward that can play into feet, his chest or is efficient with his head. He showed maturity in leading the line in wake of Adan George and Danny Waldron's exits, and I think he is a talent. Photo: Nuneaton Borough
Chris Millington has shown that he has been able to sharpen and polish rough diamonds and make them into gems; how does he fancy his latest project in the form of African, former Tranmere Rovers man Ousmane Kane. Just 22 years of age, Kane is described as being an energetic and powerful midfielder who provides a decent alternative to Kane Thompson-Sommers; another player who has shine at The Shay after being signed with very little to no experience at the level. His ability to get about the pitch and play with a strong engine is the sort of profile Millington goes for, and while there is absolutely learning to be done on the technical and tactical sides of the game, his enthusiasm to want to succeed and grasp this opportunity is infectious. Kane would certainly not be a starter fir the club - on paper, at least - but in terms of being a gamble, low-risk addition for Chris Millington, this may well be worth consideration. With The Robins letting go of Luke Summerfield, The Shaymen want to add an experienced midfielder to their ranks and thus Altrincham's now former midfielder could provide a non-flashy, yet wholly functional option. Jones has been there and done it in the National League, having been part of the Grimsby Town play-off winners in 2022, the Eastleigh play-off side in 2018-19, and has countless experience of the division. For a Shaymen side looking to push for the top seven, Jones' nous and leadership could be useful. A defensive midfielder by trade, he is - like Summerfield - one that prides himself on being able to get about the pitch, anticipating loose balls, and dictating the temp of the game with strong passing and a combative style. He won't win awards for style, but substance. Photo: Getty Images
An alternative right-back option that The Shaymen could look at in the event that Tylor Golden does depart is former Coventry City right-back Dermi Lusala. Released at the end of the season by The Sky Blues, Lusala is a highly-rated, young full-back with good pedigree and the sort of project I can imagine Chris Millington enjoying getting the best out of. Lusala was in the academy set-up at Tottenham Hotspur prior to his move, and so has had a good technical grounding. He also spent time in the youth team with Brenftord and has been capped at international level for England Under-16's, and thus has been well-coached at an early age. His exposure to men's football has been restricted to purely a loan at non-league Barwell prior to his release this summer, and so this is certainly a long-term option; the sort of signing that The Shaymen may make even if Golden stays at the club. He is very much a complete full-back in terms of his athletic profile to get up and down, contribute offensively, but is also a diligent defender. He can also play at full-back on either side, thus providing versatility. The raw tools are there, and I can see Chris Millington relishing a project like Lusala. Photo: Steve Bardens
