Bridge give themselves hope

Sowerby Bridge climbed out of the relegation zone in the Haslem-Sheppard Halifax AFL’s top flight last night with a 3-1 derby win over Sowerby United.

Oliver Coates, Matthew Whitworth and Chris Doyle got the goals for Mick Ellis’s host side with Lee Barber replying.

Victory moves Bridge above Hebden Royd Red Star but Bridge have only one game left - a return match against Sowerby - and Star have four.

Red Star host bottom side Holmfield tomorrow and defeat for the visitors would send them down.

In last night’s other game, Ryburn United Reserves beat Salem 5-3 to continue their good form in Division One.

Joe Thompson scored twice and Ashley Shaw, Chris Redhead and Craig Walker got the other goals for Ryburn with Matthew Horsfall, Lee Worrall and Adam Gaze on target for Salem.
