Brighouse up to second after Kellingley victory
Manager Luke Haigh was “thrilled” after Brighouse Town notched-up their fifth win of the Yorkshire League Division One season thanks to a 3-1 success at Kellingley Welfare last Saturday.
Michael Carter scored Town’s first and his seventh in seven matches on 26 minutes to open the scoring for the afternoon.
Man of the match Ben Foster was involved in the second five minutes later when his free kick was met by the head of Mikey O’Brien. The towering centre-back has threatened from dead balls into the box in previous matches and has now opened his account for the season.
On the stroke of half-time the hosts were awarded a penalty that was converted by Lucas Brown but Oliver Castle scored his fourth of the season to restore Town’s two-goal lead five minutes into the second half and seal victory.

Haigh said: “Overall, I’m thrilled with the performance against a team who will pick up results on their own turf.
"They knew how to play the pitch well, but once we settled into the game, there was only going to be one winner.
“The first 20 minutes took us a little while to settle into the game, but once we did and got the first goal from a great ball into the box by Ben Foster, we just didn’t look back.
"It should have been a clean sheet too, but for a very soft penalty that, in my opinion, shouldn’t have been given.
"That said, we also shouldn’t have given the referee the opportunity to make that decision.
Brighouse are now second in the table, one point behind Wortley, ahead of Saturday’s trip to third-placed Boroughbridge.
