Brighouse's smooth cup progress

Brighouse Town powered past hosts Garforth Town 5-0 in last night's West Riding County Cup first round tie.

The Evo-Stik NPL First Division North leaders struck three times in eight minutes midway through the first half to stamp their authority on the tie.

Luke Parkin combined with Jacob Buchanan before smashing home the opener from 20 yards on 20 minutes.

Ruben Jerome made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after he had been fouled and a Daniel Bunch 25-yarder virtually sealed matters.

Greg Pearson got the other two goals in the space of two minutes in the second half.

His back post finish for 4-0 on 59 minutes was followed but a stunning long range effort.

Brighouse have a bye in the second round, in which FC Halifax Town travel to Ossett Albion.

Paul Quinn’s side will then be at home to either Knaresborough Town or Goole AFC.

Brighouse are back in cup action on Saturday with an FA Trophy preliminary round trip to Witton Albion.
