The robust defender had the big toe of his right foot crushed by a falling concrete block on Monday.

Although predominantly left footed, that is unlikely to make much difference as Borough boss John Gilford believes Lively won’t be able to put on a boot or a shoe for some time.

“It is broken in two places and the end of his toe has been crushed,” said Gilford, adding that the injury was so severe that Lively needed surgery.

“I would imagine that his season is over,” added Gilford.

Borough’s game at home to Stoneclough in Division Two of the West Lancashire League was postponed last Saturday with Friday night’s rain proving fatal for the fixture.

Borough visit third-placed Milnthorpe Corinthians on Saturday. The Cumbrians’ ground and clubhouse were flooded a month ago.

Borough won the home fixture 4-1 in mid-November.
