FC Halifax Town 0-0 Boston: We didn't have enough quality, admits Heath

Halifax recorded a goalless draw for only the third time this season in an underwhelming contest featuring few clear-cut chances, but the result extends their unbeaten run to eight games.

Heath said: “It’s up to us to try and break teams down but we didn’t pass the ball well enough. We weren’t first to a lot of things and they looked sharper than us.

“When things were dropping in all areas of the pitch, they looked to be first. That was disappointing.

“We just didn’t have enough quality today, it’s as simple as that.

“We just didn’t get going. We didn’t pass the ball well long or short. We couldn’t get into any rhythm that we’ve had for the past seven or eight games.

“We want to win every game but you get games like that. Now we have to make sure we win on Tuesday (at Alfreton) and things will look different again.”

Heath felt Boston’s game-plan cancelled out his own team’s chances of imposing themselves on the contest.

“It wasn’t the prettiest,” he said. “We just didn’t get going today in all aspects. I think the biggest plus was the clean sheet.

“I thought we were second best for most of the first-half, we looked off the pace.

“We made a change at half-time but fair play to Boston, they were well organised. They played 4-1-4-1 and the lad in front of the defence was stopping the supply line into Adam Morgan, we couldn’t get him on the ball. So from their point of view they’ve done a good job.

“But we were slow on the ball, quality-wise we never got going, we were poor. But we’ve gained a point on teams so it’s not the end of the world.”

Heath again praised the performance of defender Matty Brown, who continued his comeback from injury.

“We’ve just got to be careful with Matty,” said the Town boss. “For me he looked at his maximum today. “We’ll have to look at what shape he’s in for Tuesday. He’s been magnificent - to have eight months out, have a month’s training and come straight in. He’s been going through on adrenaline, but we just have to make sure he’s right for Tuesday because we don’t want him to break down. But I thought defensively we didn’t get that stretched. Sometimes in football you don’t play well but you make sure you come out with something, and we have.

“Did either team team really do enough to deserve to win it? I don’t think so.”

On Danny Clarke, who replaced Daniel Nti in Town’s only change, Heath said: “He did well enough. It’s not his natural position but at this moment in time we haven’t got a natural fit for that position.

“We’re working on that but he did as well as everyone else.”

Left-back Josh Wilde was taken off injured in the second-half, and Heath says there is a doubt over his involvement at Alfreton on Tuesday.

“There is a question mark if he’s come off,” Heath added. “Hopefully we can ice him up.

“He got a knee in the back and he’s overstretched chasing down the ball in the corner. Hopefully we can settle it down because we haven’t got another left-back. We haven’t got a 25-man squad like some other teams.”
