FC Halifax Town 0-1 Wealdstone: A point was the least we deserved, says Town boss Wild

FC Halifax Town boss Pete Wild praised the never-say-die attitude of his team after their 1-0 home defeat to Wealdstone.

Wild, Jeff King and Danny Williams were all sent-off for Town in an ill-tempered contest, with the game decided by substitute Daniel Parish's last strike.

"We deserved something out of the game, we were tactically well organised," Wild said.

"The decisions that were out of our control unfortunately dictated the football match.

"Even with the game being on, the rule is that if you have 14 fit players you have to play, and we had 14 fit players.

"When we organised the game, we had many more than that but coronavirus has swept through our squad and some players are still self-isolating.

"That hasn't helped us.

"Then you get the ridiculous decision after two minutes, you then get Stenson, no-one around him, puts his foot in the grass and twists his knee.

"So you're making a substitution you didn't really want to make.

"Everything has transpired against us. They're not excuses, they're just facts of the game.

"I thought our lads were excellent in how they kept going and how well organised and compact we were, how tough to play against we were.

"Even when we went to nine-men, I still felt the same, I thought they put an unbelievable shift in tonight and they deserve immense credit. I'm gutted for them that they couldn't hold on to at least get a point because that's the least we deserved."

Wild said the club will be appealing Jeff King's dismissal, but can't appeal Danny Williams' sending-off because it was for two yellow cards.

"When I got sent-off I had the time to watch the footage back and slow it down." Wild said.

"It's not even a foul. The linesman's told Jeff it's not a foul but the ref's deemed it serious foul play, which is absolutely ridiculous.

"Their lad makes exactly the same tackle, arguably worse, and it's only deemed a yellow card.

"That spills over to me and their gaffer having a scrap that doesn't need to happen, but because we're both highly charged, we get involved in nonsense.

"Again it comes down to the lack of quality from the person in the middle.

"But there wasn't a bad tackle in the game. If he gives Jeff a yellow for the one in the corner, he gives the other lad a yellow.

"They're both not reds but if one is a red the other is a red.

"So, just utter madness of a week, a game. All I can do now is dust them down and go again but what I see is a never-say-die attitude, an organisation, a quality. And it will turn, and when it does, we'll be fine."
