FC Halifax Town: Barrow preview

It’s now more than two months since Town’s last defeat, with Halifax winning six games out of nine under Jim Harvey, drawing the other three.

They have also kept three clean sheets in their last four games and have conceded just seven goals in Jim Harvey’s nine games in charge. Before then they’d conceded 35 in 10 games under Darren Kelly.

The Shaymen will bank £6,000 if they win on Tuesday, adding to the £5,000 they earned for beating Tamworth in the last round.

Barrow, who have former Town players Steve Williams and David Mellor in their squad, are without a win in four, with their only win in their last eight away games coming in the last round of the FA Trophy at Sutton Coldfield.

That 1-0 win was their only clean sheet in their last seven games and one of only two clean sheets away from home all season.

Barrow head to The Shay on the back of an extraordinary match against Tranmere, where they were leading 3-1 after 89 minutes but ended up losing 4-3, with ex-Town man Lois Maynard scoring one of Rovers’ late goals.

They are currently 17th in the National League and have lost 10 away games in the division, a tally only matched by Altrincham, while also conceding more away goals in the league than any other team.

Andy Cook is the club’s top-scorer with 14 goals, and netted in Barrow’s league visit to The Shay back in August before goals from Shaun Tuton, CJ Hamilton and Jordan Burrow sealed a 3-1 win for Halifax.

Barrow’s last win at The Shay came way back on Boxing Day in 1966 when they won 4-1.

Whoever wins will be just three more rounds from a Wembley appearance and will play Chester at home in the third round.
