FC Halifax Town: Boreham Wood preview

Both sides are embroiled in the battle to avoid the drop from the National League, with Town losing 1-0 at Dover on Saturday, and Boreham Wood drawing 2-2 at Chester thanks to a last-minute equaliser from on-loan Barnsley striker Harry White.

Halifax have just one win in their last five matches, but have lost only once in their previous 14 home outings.

Striker Jamie Lucas, who is on loan from Bristol Rovers, is Boreham Wood’s top-scorer with six goals, but has only scored in one of his last nine appearances.

Boreham Wood have won only once in their last seven games, but only two sides in the division have conceded fewer away goals than them.

Manager Luke Garrard, 30, took over in October after the resignation of Ian Allinson, and has won just six of his 28 games in charge.

Only Welling have scored fewer league goals than Boreham Wood’s 36, but no team has conceded more in the league than Halifax’s 74.

Town hope to have centre-back Matty Brown back from his ankle injury, while Josh Macdonald could be handed a start after an impressive cameo off the bench at Dover.

A win could lift Halifax above Boreham Wood in the table and out of the relegation zone, while a draw could also move them out of the drop zone depending on Torquay’s result against Chester and Altrincham’s result against Dover.

The worst case scenario would be a Tpwn defeat and wins for Altrincham and Torquay, which would leave Halifax in 22nd place and three points from safety with just six games left.
