That was one of 15 goals in 291 games for Halifax under five permanent managers.

McManus’ first season ended in disappointment with defeat in the Conference North play-offs, but he helped Town earn promotion the season after. He was then part of the side that reached the Conference National play-offs in 2014 before recovering from a cruciate ligament injury sustained in the FA Trophy final in time to be part of Halifax’s promotion back to the fifth tier under Billy Heath.

He has spent the last two seasons at Coalville after leaving The Shay in 2018.

On Twitter, McManus said: “The time has come to call it a day and hang my boots up!! Not an easy decision but one that benefits me and my family.

“I’d like to thank FC Halifax Town and fans for the most enjoyable part of my career and for all the memories.

“Also like ti thank Coalville Town for the last couple of years was an absolute pleasure and is one very well run family club.

“Thanks Macca.”
