FC Halifax Town: Midfielder Sinnott enjoying his goal glut

The midfielder notched his seventh goal of the campaign in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at home to Brackley - his third goal in four games.

Sinnott doesn’t have a tally in mind for the campaign, but is enjoying the kind of form in-front of goal he targeted at the start of the season.

“The main aim when I came to the club was to play well but individually, add goals to my game,” he said.

“So I’m happy with how it’s gone so far. I haven’t set any targets to reach because if you don’t reach them it can have a negative effect on you.

“I honestly couldn’t tell you why I’ve scored so many - I’ve been wondering that myself!

“I’m getting into the right positions and I always back myself in front of goal.

“We’ve got good players in our team and we can create chances.

“At times the ball’s been put on a plate, not just for me, but for others as well.

“I’m just taking each game as it comes and trying to contribute goals, but if not, assists and helping out defensively.”

As well as his goalscoring exploits, Sinnott has been in outstanding form generally, producing some sparkling performances in the number 10 role in midfield.

The former Altrincham man has displayed a superb range of passing and excellent technique, often dictating Town’s attacking play.

“I think that comes with the team playing well and the run we were on,” Sinnott said of his good form.

“Confidence has been flowing through the team and we’ve been confident going into every game that we could win.

“The gaffer wants us to play football, but in the right areas - he’ll give you a telling off if it doesn’t work out.

“But we’re not afraid of trying things.”

Sinnott insists he’s not the finished article yet though.

“It’s still early days for me, I’m only 22,” he said.

“I played a full season last year in the Conference but prior to that I was in and out at Huddersfield and on loan at Bury.

“I’m thriving on getting a run of games to show the manager and the fans what I can do.

“It helps when you are on a good run of scoring, but I still need to learn that balance of when to pass and when to shoot.

“In the Harrogate cup game the gaffer was telling me at half-time to have a go for goal a bit more and thankfully I got lucky with the goal.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s FA Cup first round clash at Dagenham and Redbridge, Sinnott believes Halifax are capable of springing a surprise.

“There’s no reason why we can’t put in a good performance and see where that takes us,” he added.

“We’re going into it on a bit of a downer after Saturday - it’s not the ideal way to go into the game.

“But we need to keep doing what we’re doing, and maybe be a bit more solid defensively.

“Attacking-wise, on our day we can score against anyone.”
