FC Halifax Town: National League were "100 per cent right" not to suspend fixtures, says Wild

FC Halifax Town boss Pete Wild said it was "100 per cent" the right decision by the National League to let their games go ahead this weekend amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The Premier League, Football League and some divisions in non-league decided to suspend their fixtures, but the National League went against the grain and allowed their clubs to play, although some games were postponed.

"I was pleasantly surprised when the league said the fixtures were on," said Wild, whose Halifax side lost 1-0 to Ebbsfleet.

"I think they've took a pragmatic approach, regardless of opinion. Government advice says crack on, so crack on.

"Like any other day of the week, if you're ill, phone in sick. If you're not, get on with your job, and that's what we've done.

"I don't think there's any need to be calling games off so I think they made the right choice."

On Town's game at Boreham Wood - who postponed their game due to their close links to Arsenal, whose boss Mikel Arteta has coronavirus - on Tuesday night, Wild said: "I'm planning as though it's going to go ahead, until I hear any different."

Wild added: "We'll just carry on training and coming into work every day, I've told the players that.

"If it stops, they're not going on their holidays. We'll be in normal time, normal days, and we'll train.

"Let's see what legislation's brought on and we'll do whatever's needed."
