FC Halifax Town progressed to the next round of the West Riding County Cup after beating Goole on penalties.

The game finished 3-3 before a much-changed Town side won 4-2 on penalties.

Senior players Shaun Rowley, Simon Lenighan and Mekhi McLeod were given run-outs, but other than that it was a youthful Halifax team for the game.

Goole took the lead after 15 minutes when a long-throw was slotted home.

They hit the bar shortly after the interval before Josh Schofield doubled their lead.

But Town mounted a fightback, and eventually equalised through a Jake Taylor penalty.

Town then looked to have won it when they took the lead 10 minutes from time, but Goole’s Adam Lund forced the tie to penalties.

Town: Rowley, Benn, O’Regan, Abioye, Sesay, Gordon, Lenighan, McLeod, Freedman, Taylor, Cham. Subs: Simpson, Hill, Wade, Da Costa, Janis.
