FC Halifax Town: Shaymen taking common sense approach towards coronavirus

The spread of the illness has caused Manchester City’s game with Arsenal in the Premier League tonight (Wednesday) to be postponed.

Football games across Europe have either been called off or are to be played behind-closed-doors because of the virus.

“It’s like with everyone else, common sense has got to prevail,” Wild said when asked how the outbreak was affecting his preparations.

“The boys look after the bodies and the club doctor advises us as and when appropriate.

“We’ve had a couple of lads with a bit of a cold so we’ve sent them home and got them out of the building.

“But we’d do that with anybody who presented with a common cold, so it’s nothing different.”

When asked if he was tempted to make changes in the wake of the Woking defeat last Saturday, the Town boss said: “We’ll see how people are. We’ve got a little bout of illness with a couple of lads, so we’ll see how people are later in the week.

“It’s not the coronavirus, but we’ll see how they present later in the week.

“I’m not a knee jerk reaction sort of bloke. Maybe at five o’clock on a Saturday I am, but I had the weekend to calm down and I’ve come back with a more placid attitude towards things.”

Wild said his only injury concern was over captain Matty Brown.

“He’s got a sore back, but he had that going into Saturday’s game,” said Wild.

“He’s the only one we’ll have to assess later in the week.

“But everybody’s raring to go, we’ve trained well and we look sharp, we look back to where we were a couple of weeks ago.

“Hopefully that’s a good omen.”
