FC Halifax Town: Top-scorer Kosylo unsure where his future lies

Kosylo’s contract expires in the summer and speculation earlier in the season linked him with a move to the Football League.

The former Stockport and Nantwich man has produced some scintillating football at times this season and leads the club’s scoring charts with 11 goals, despite missing chunks of the campaign through injury.

Kosylo should attract plenty of interest, and would be a major loss to The Shaymen if he does leave, although it is understood Halifax an option to extend his contract for a further year.

When asked about his future, Kosylo said: “I don’t know. I honestly couldn’t tell you.

“Nothing major has been discussed about anything going forward.”

There’s plenty to discuss about Kosylo’s season though, mainly his impressive goal return of 11 - a one-in-three record for the season.

“My missus was peppering me this week saying I should be scoring more goals, but she doesn’t understand that I’ve been missing for two months of the season, if not more,” Kosylo said.

“I’m happy with how many I’ve scored. I would like to hit double-figures for the league, so hopefully I can nick one or two more before the end of the season.

“I did set a target of hitting double figures this season and I’ve achieved that.

“It’s been a pretty frustrating season for me, even though I’m happy with reaching certain targets.

“I picked up another injury, which was really frustrating because I felt like I was on banging form at the time.

“I’ve probably not had that form since but I’ve shown it in glimpses .

“It is character building having to come back from injuries and I have learned a lot this season.”

The highest Halifax can finish is 12th, and they will finish no lower than 20th, but Kosylo believes Town could have finished higher.

“The job at the start of the season was to make sure we stayed in this league.

“We had a really tough patch at one point but we recovered and probably showed we are actually a bit better than our league position says, although it does even itself out over the course of a season.

“But I do think if we had been more consistent we could have finished higher.”

Kosylo doesn’t think staying up in the National League is a better achievement than winning promotion from the National League North last season, but reckons the squad’s character has played a big part in this campaign’s survival.

“Our resilience in bouncing back from the tough patch we had has been key.

“We didn’t look like scoring, we were conceding goals and didn’t even look like creating anything.

“But we turned it round and we’ve beaten a few good teams recently, no more so than Boreham Wood and Sutton.”

Whatever Kosylo’s future may hold, for now he is focused on winning both of Town’s last two games.

“It sounds awful to say it but we’ve got to ruin Tranmere’s party.

“I’ve only got one thing in my mind and that’s to beat them. I don’t want to get beaten twice by the same team and have them thinking we’re not that good - it’s the same with Maidstone.

“I wasn’t at it at Tranmere earlier this season so I’ve got something to prove and I’d like to think the rest of the lads have as well.”
