FC Halifax Town: We're actively seeking reinforcements, says Young

Young had two irons in the fire last week that didn’t come to fruition, but admits he is short on numbers.

“We tried to get one or two in last week but one injured his medial ligament when we went for him, so he’s out for 10 or 12 weeks,” Young lamented.

“I went to watch another lad on Friday and he wasn’t playing.

“But we’re active, we’re working hard. We’re going to need players, with Josh Wilde out and possibly Scott McManus too.

“I’ve not seen the young lads play yet and I’ll hopefully do that this week.

“If Macca is out we’ll only have 16 fit players so we do need a bit of help.

“But we’ll let me worry about that over the next few days.”

Asked how long he would be in charge, Young said: “I’ve not asked the question. My focus has been on trying to get prepared for this game.

“It’s very difficult when you’ve got two nights, an hour-and-a-half each in appalling weather, to get messages across to the players.

“You’ve got to be able to put sessions on that they believe in and make sure you’re credible. If you go in there and you’re all over the place then they’re not going to buy into what you’re doing.

“But I’ve done it before. I’ve been doing this a long time.

“But if you’ve ever played against a Billy Heath team you know what you’re getting and that showed in abundance on Saturday.”

Young is back in management for the first time since August 2016 when he resigned as Altrincham boss.

“It’s water off a duck’s back to me,” he added. “I’ve enjoyed it and I’ve enjoyed the training.

“I’ve never been lazy in what I do - I’ve always done everything to the best of my ability - but it’s been hectic. I was out watching Blackburn under 23’s on Friday, I was at training on Thursday straight from work. It took me three hours to get from Halifax!

“We trained Tuesday, I was out at a game on Wednesday. So I have put the effort in because whatever you do you’ve got your own personal pride and I want to do well.

“There’s no free shot. We’re here to win football matches and whether I’m here for one, two or three weeks, it’s my job to make sure the players are as well-prepared as they can be to try and win football matches.”
