Halifax FC Women sign defender Mendez from Aberdeen
Halifax FC Women manager Rob Mitchell has continued to strengthen his squad with the signing of Irish right-back Alix Mendez.
The 21-year-old defender joins the Shay women from Scottish Women’s Premier League side Aberdeen, bringing valuable experience and versatility to Halifax’s back line.
Mendez began her career in Ireland with Treaty United at U17s level before earning a move to Cork City Women, where she developed into a consistent and reliable right-sided defender.
Her performances in the League of Ireland attracted interest from across the water, leading to her switch to Aberdeen, where she gained experience competing at the highest level of women’s football in Scotland.

Now, the young Irish international prospect makes the move to England, with Halifax securing her signature as they look to push on this season.
Speaking about the signing, Halifax FC Women manager Rob Mitchell said he was delighted to bring Mendez to the club. “Alix is a player we’ve been monitoring for a while,” Mitchell said.
“She’s young, hungry, and very versatile. She’s comfortable on the ball, strong defensively, and has the ability to get forward and support attacks.
"Coming from a full-time environment in Scotland, she brings a great level of professionalism and experience.”
Mendez primarily operates as a right-back but is also capable of playing across the defensive line, giving Mitchell added depth and tactical flexibility.
“I’m really excited to be joining Halifax,” Mendez said. “It’s a great opportunity for me to continue developing and to be part of an ambitious project. The club’s vision and the style of football they want to play really appealed to me, and I can’t wait to get started and make an impact.”
The signing marks another statement of intent from Halifax FC Women, who are aiming to build on last season’s progress and challenge higher up the National League Northern Premier table.
With Mendez’s pace, defensive awareness, and experience at the senior level, the Shay women will hope their newest recruit can play a key role in tightening up the defence and driving the team forward this campaign.
