First half goals from Dan Thirkell and Dan Barrett gave the hosts a healthy lead at the break, before Alex Low scored his first goal for the club in the second half to give Railway a commanding lead.

Glasshoughton, placed 16th in NCEL Division One – two tiers below Railway - pulled one back in the 77th minute through Regan Fish, although hopes of a comeback were swiftly dashed when Barrett curled into the top corner for his second of the evening.

Railway will face a trip to North West Counties team Barnoldswick Town in the second round on November 7.

Barnoldswick knocked 2013/14 cup winners Eccleshill United out on penalties on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Tadcaster Albion’s involvement in the competition came to an end in a dramatic shoot-out at AFC Goole United on Tuesday night.

Albion had battled back from a half-time two-goal deficit thanks to goals from Matt Heath and Jimmy Beadle.

Beadle, Josh Greening, Liam Ormsby, Dan Clayton and Andy Milne all scored from 12 yards but misses from teenager Alfie Beestin and former Railway captain Jason Mycoe saw Goole progress.

Meanwhile, Knaresborough Town’s clash at Ossett Albion was postponed due to the latter’s replay in the FA Trophy.

Harrogate Town will enter the competition in the second round stage with an away trip to Evo-Stik First Division North side Brighouse Town. The tie will be played on November 2 (7.45pm).
