Brighouse Town will be breathing considerably easier after a 1-0 home win over Mossley last night.

James Hurtley, who returned to the club in mid-season, scored with eight minutes left to give Town a first success at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium since they beat Colne 2-1 on December 2.

Since then they have had five defeats and two draws.

It was Town’s third game in five days, after a 4-3 win at Ossett Town and a 2-0 home defeat to Glossop North East, and their prospects did not look bright when Callum Hall received a straight red card after 27 minutes.

However, Brighouse’s 10 men dug deep in front of 121 supporters and Hurtley took his chance when the ball was punched to him by the visiting ‘keeper from a corner late on.

Powell’s men are still next to bottom with five games left but they are now 10 points clear of Goole with one side to go down. Brighouse travel to Scarborough Athletic on Saturday.
