The Shaymen were due to host Dorking at The Shay last night (Tuesday) but the game was called off shortly before lunchtime due to a watelogged pitch.

It is the second time the condition of The Shay pitch has caused the game to be postponed, with the match originally called off due to the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

"The biggest frustration for me is that it's another week where we've set our schedule out and prepared the training programme for a two-game week, and midway through the plans change," Millington said.

"First and foremost it's an opportunity to play and gain three points that we've lost.

"Secondly it's an opportunity to train and put in a really good training day because a Tuesday, on a one-game week, would be a heavy training session and we've missed out on an opportunity to do that because by the time the game's postponed, we would have already trained.

"So we lose on both counts, no doubt Dorking were in training on Tuesday and it didn't affect their training schedule but it messes ours up.

"It's the second week in a short space of time where our preparation and planning are undermined.

"Those in the game will understand how disruptive that is, it's not a good situation to be in over and over again."

When asked what Millington feels the answer to the problem pitch at The Shay is, he said: "It's a process and a problem that happens above my head really.

"I know there's a lot of discontent around the club with the postponement.

"Quite how we move forward I don't really know, but my main concern is making sure the lads are fully prepared for every game we go into and, at the moment, I can't put my hand on my heart and say we're doing that when we're having situations like this occur over and over again.

"My main concern is we make sure we do everything we can to prepare the lads in the best possible way for upcoming games, and if we keep chopping and changing games programmes and training programmes part way through the season, then I can't honestly say we're doing that."

Millington says the backroom staff at the club adapt as best they can in unforeseen circumstances.

"Performances are directly affected by what happens in your training week," he said.

"There are all kinds of things that influence performance and results, but clearly the most important thing is having a steady, well-planned, well-delivered training programme that prepares the lads and puts them in the best possible shape to perform on matchday.

"And if those plans are being disrupted part way through a week and opportunities i train and play are being taken away, then we can't say we're preparing in the best possible way.

"We'll do everything we can to adapt when things change and we'll do everything we can to be flexible, to make sure we do our best in any given situation, but clearly this is far from ideal."
