Pond started brightly and Paul Taylor had an early chance scrambled off the line, whilst Andy Kelly shot over the top when well placed.

Visiting ‘keeper Dan Barnes made a good stop with his feet but was soon beaten from the penalty spot by Adam Burke.

The home side were soon two goals to the good via a break away from Lewis Oldridge, whose partnership up front with Jake Kennedy caused Pond plenty of problems.

Oldridge hit the post whilst at the other end Joe Shaw blazed over, having been fed by Taylor on the stroke of half time.

Burke netted his second from the spot before an Oldridge own goal following Taylor’s dangerous punt into the area gave the Hove Edge side hope.

Pond threw caution to the wind and were picked off by the home side’s speedsters as Kennedy and Oldridge got ahead of their markers to stretch the lead.

Beehive and Crosskeys won 7-5 away to Lee Mount in an epic encounter which went to extra time while King Cross Park, unbeaten in Division Two, embarrassed first division promotion hopefuls Feathers by 3-1.

Joel Booth’s decision to rest some Hollins Holme players caused him some discomfort during and after the Halifax FA Sunday Cup game against Halifax Amateurs.

Hollins beat their visitors from two divisions lower by 6-4 but were relieved when Steve Senior finally put the game to bed with his side’s sixth goal with 10 minutes left.

Goals from Andy Butterworth (two) and Senior left them sitting pretty at 3-0 but the plucky Amateurs got it back to 3-2 with half an hour left.

Butterworth’s third and fourth goals made it 5-2 but Amateurs scored two quick goals to revive hopes of an upset, only for Senior to settle matters.

Hollins had lost James Cowens with a knee injury early on and when Ryan Jeffries injured his ankle Booth had to go on and was feeling the after-effects this week.

Booth said: “We have been suffering a lot of injuries so I rested a few. It nearly back-fired.”

Mount Tabor strode past division lower Royd Club by 6-0.

After an even start, a dipping shot from the edge of the area into the top corner gave Rick Davison no chance.

Both sides missed chances and Royd had an effort against the bar but most of them fell to Tabor, who added two more goals before the break.

The visitors doubled their tally in the second half, when Royd had a goal disallowed for offside and put a penalty over the bar.

Ryburn Valley beat Barge FC 4-2, David Woffenden and Jamie Cartledge netting for Matthew Bagshaw’s side.

Holders Halifax Hammers made smooth progress with an 11-4 win away to Triangle while another top section side to progress was Waiters Arms, 5-3 winners away to Ovenden BCFC.

There were two Halifax Sunday League matches, both in Division Two.

Halifax Hammers Reserves thumped bottom side North Bridge Reserves 18-3, a margin of victory sufficient to take them top on goal difference form Halifax Rangers.

Weavers are fourth after a 5-1 home win over Top Club Reserves at Mytholmroyd.

The Rastrick side battled back and Gary Nicholson struck a sweet volleyed equaliser just before half time.

Any thoughts of a comeback were quickly quelled however, as Kenny Bills’ outfit grabbed a quick-fire double after the break.

The home side netted twice more late on.
