Thrashed Woodhouse ‘fell apart’, according to manager Gibson

Woodhouse United boss Rhys Gibson was dismayed by his side’s second half collapse in a 7-0 home defeat by Old Cock in the Rochdale Sunday League.

United trailed by a single goal at the interval but according to Gibson they “fell apart” once the Division Two leaders started to knock in the goals.

Old Cock were making it 11 wins out of 11 in Division One but they did so with 10 men, having had a player red carded for a bad tackle after 20 minutes.

Dan Lively had a good game at centre half for United, who had a couple of goals ruled out, but Gibson was scathing about the attitude of some of his players.

“There is no shame in losing to a team with their record but what was disappointing was the way we gave up and didn’t try.

“Their manager said they had come expecting a tough game after we beat Boundary Park recently.

“They struggled for 50 minutes and didn’t like the heavy pitch but all of a sudden they scored two or three goals and were cruising.

“Everyone knows we have a good team and if people come with a “give everything” mindset we can get results against the good teams.

“But our attitude and application needs to be right.”

If the Woodhouse pitch recovers sufficiently from Sunday’s battering, United will get a chance to make amends in a re-arranged game against next to bottom Duke of Wellington, who they beat 6-1 away when Jordan Wheeler suffered a nasty knee injury.

Walsden C & FC, who drew 2-2 away to Star Athletic in their last Rochdale Online Alliance game 12 days ago, travel to play White Lion at Firgrove on Saturday.

White Lion are fourth and Walsden could move up to just below them in the Premier Division if successful in Rochdale.
