Cristiano Ronaldo took first place ahead of Lionel Messi, with Antoine Griezmann in third.

Fourth was Luis Suarez and fifth was his Barcelona team-mate Neymar, with Gareth Bale sixth, Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez seventh and Vardy eighth.

Vardy won the Premier league with Leicester last season, scoring 24 goals.

Vardy came higher than the world’s most expensive ever footballer, Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, in the vote.
