Wins for Calderdale pair

Ovenden West Riding and Halifax Irish Club registered runaway wins in the top section of the West Riding County Amateur League last night.

Ovenden had a 4-0 home success over an ill disciplined Dudley Hill side at Natty Lane while Irish maintained their much-improved form with 6-1 success away to Hunsworth.

Goals from George Bamford (2) and the irrepressible Damian Randall (2) did the trick for West Riding, who face their most strenuous task so far this season when they travel to high-flying Steeton (2-30) on Saturday.

Michael Rhodes, Sam Rourke and Liam Reilly will be among the dangermen.

Irish hit five goals without reply in the second half at Hunsworth, Ashley Brown and Eli Hey finishing with two each and Hayden Kerris and Scott Gaukroger getting the others.

Irish play at Natty Lane for the first time this season on Saturday when they entertain Littletown, who have had two wins and two defeats so far.

Greetland Reserves won the opening match of the Haslem-Sheppard Halifax AFL season last night.

Goals from Andy Hurcombe (two), Geoge (two), George Wall and Tom Wall gave them a 6-0 home win over Shelf United Reserves in Division Two.
