The utility back spent Saturday night in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and was moved to Leeds General Infirmary on Sunday morning for an MRI scan and to determine the best treatment.

Brods chairman Richard Turner spoke to Georgiou’s father Jason, a former county centre, yesterday.

Turner said: “I understand Dom has had a “halo” or external frame fitted which will probably be on for three months.

“Obviously this is a serious injury but we are all pleased that he has use of all his limbs and that is the main priority at this stage.

“All at the club wish Dom well and a full recovery.

“We would like to thank the two club physiotherapists, Emma Cliffe and Dave Presland, who attended to Dom.

“Their care and attention was critical on the day and ensured that he was safely cared for whilst awaiting the emergency services.”

The player, on his Facebook account, said: “I would just like to thank all you people that have shown concerns for me over the past couple of days.”

He is clearly in decent spirits, saying he was “loving life being waited on hand and foot.”

Georgiou confirmed the injury as a fractured C6 vertebrae in his neck.

Saturday’s match was abandoned very early in the second half with Georgiou laid on the main pitch and the second team pitch deemed unfit due to bonfire debris. Brods were leading 14-3 at the time.

The match is likely to be rescheduled with mid-January the first possible available date,
