Gold and silver for Lewis in Dublin slalom events

Todmorden youngster Lewis Kipping returned from last weekend’s Irish Open Artificial Slope Ski Championships with gold and silver medals.

The 12-year-old, who attends Calder High School, was among around 100 racers from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales taking part in the Dublin event.

There were slalom races on Saturday and Sunday.

Lewis came second in the boys under 14 international race on Saturday and first in Irish Open Slalom on Sunday.

He is a member of Rossendale Ski Club and is coached by Gordon Wellens, Mike Hopkins and Karon Driver.

Lewis has been skiing for seven years and this was his first overseas competition.
