Booth maintains superb run

Booth, now playing out of Crosland Heath, teamed up with plus four handicapper and England A squad member Jamie Bower to win the pro-am section at Meltham yesterday with 41 stableford points.

They scored one point more than the Bradley Park/Crosland Heath combination of Tom Wild and Luke Pilkington (1) and Crow Nest Park pair Gareth Evans and Nick Day (6).

Bower was making his home course knowledge count and four Meltham clubmates did likewise in the am-am section on a day of mixed weather with little wind.

Tom Hunt (3) and Tom Irving (14) bagged an excellent 45 points to win by one from Chris Holes (6) and Ronnie Mellor (14).

They finished three points clear of Elland’s Ryan Greenwood (scr) and Bradey Park’s M.Smith (7) who took third from Marsden’s Josh McAspurn (5) and Meltham’s Gareth McMahon (11) on a back six count-back.

The only eagles of the day came from Woodsome Hall assistant Adam Drury, who took three stokes on each of the two par fives.

Alliance official Trevor Williams (12) of Crosland Heath had a gross eagle on the par four 15th, holing out of the rough from 95 yards, and there were a total of 11 nett eagles.

The winter course was in very good condition, benefiting from the dry late winter and early spring and the greens were excellent.

Booth, previously successful at West End, Outlane, Crosland Heath and Bradley Hall, has an unassailable lead in the Order of Merit but is not a club pro so cannot take the prize money.

Richard Lambert is next on 32 points, followed by Darren Arber on 30 and Tom Wild on 29 with three events to go.

The next Alliance is at Bradley Park on Tuesday, April 7.
