Final round wobble sends John Parry down US Open field

The 28-year-old dropped heavily down the leaderboard in Sunday’s fourth round at Chambers Bay after bogeying his first five holes in a nine-over par 79.

American Jordan Speith created a slice of history as he became the youngest winner of the US Open in a thrilling finale.

Ryder Cup teammate Dustin Johnson three-putted the 18th hole to give 21-year-old Speith a second successive major, following his triumph at the Masters earlier this year.

Parry had enjoyed three fine days at the torturous course in Washington state and headed into Sunday inside the top 40 players on six over par.

Opening rounds of 72 and 73 had put him into the final two days despite a nervy wait position on the very edge of the cut at five over.

As others struggled on Saturday’s ‘moving day’, Parry held firm with three birdies in a one over 71.

However, for the fourth competition in succession, the Knaresborough ace endured his worst round of the lot on the final day.

Playing alongside 2012 US Open winner Webb Simpson on the final day, Parry got off to a horrendous start – bogeying five straight holes.

Two birdies in the next three holes were betwixt with another bogey as he made the turn for home on ten over par.

His struggles continued on the back nine as he posted five more blobs to finish the tournament on 15 over par in a tie for 72nd – third from bottom of the players who made the cut.
