They were joint leaders with Huddersfield after the first round of the Glenbrae-sponsored event but their quartet of Andy Shaw, Chris Lander, Sam Bridges and Andy Hare improved by six shots second time around.

Their Fixby counterparts, in contrast, found it harder going but comfortably held on to second spot from Halifax, who were led into a fine third place by Jamie Smith.

Last year’s Union team boss Shaw had two rounds of 73 for the winners, a score better only by Calder Valley golfer Aaron Schnacke who had a 145 total for Huddersfield.

Bridges won Saturday’s John Hamer Rosebowl at Bradley Hall with a gross 66, nett 65, and he fired a 70 in Sunday’s second round at Heath, a hillside course overlooking the Colne Valley.

Lander was also among the top four individuals while Hare was not at his best but still finished 18th indivbidual on the day.

The top 11 teams qualify for next year’s event but Lightcliffe, Crow Nest Park, Hebden Bridge and Queensbury must play in the second division event in 2016.
