24-hour bowlathon in Elland raises cash for the NHS

The brains behind the event was Mark Holden, who was inspired to organised it because of his family members who work for the NHS who have struggled to cope with the COVID-19 crisis.

One hundred bowlers signed up, paying £10 to bowl, while specially produced t-shirts helped raise more cash, with some of them being donated around the NHS. There were also auctions and raffles to increase the total raised.

The bowlathon started at 8am on Saturday, with free tea and coffee being served.

Mark, who was assisted by his brother John, said: “We had people who have never bowled before who just wanted to be part of the event.

”We had all weather - rain. sun, strong winds - but we just carried on.

”I can’t thank everyone by name but thank you to all who bowled.or contributed a prize, thanks to Elland CA&BC for allowing us to use their premises.

”The event ended with two ladies with 50 years of service to the NHS between them bowling, and we also got a rainbow at 8pm on the last night.”
