Rugby union, but not as we know it, as Halifax Vandals take on Heath in touch rugby friendly

It might not have been rugby as we know it, but Halifax Vandals can be pleased with their afternoon’s work against Heath on Saturday.

Playing a Ready4Rugby friendly - a 10 v 10, touch rugby format which is allowed under Stage D of the RFU’s Return to Rugby Roadmap - at North Dean, the Vandals adapted to the game well.

Played over 4 x 10 minute spells, Vandals won one, drew one, lost one and were well in contention in the final quarter when the referee ended the match early.

The new format will take some getting used to, and it was difficult for two sides with full contact part of their DNA and more akin to going at it full force (hence the early finish). However the match was played in good spirits and both sides will have enjoyed the run out.

The scores were - Q1 4-3 to Vandals; Q2 2-2; Q3 3-2 Heath; Q4 Heath leading 1-0 when play stopped due to too much contact.

New signings Alex Horner and Danny Richardson (who have both made the short trip across to Warley from Halifax) were among the Vandals players to impress.

Vandals are in talks with other clubs in the area for similar friendlies in the coming weeks.

Any new players interested in joining the Vandals are welcome up to training on at Thursday up at Warley (7pm start).
