It was a much-needed second win of the season for Karl Fairbank’s men after three successive defeats.

Contrary to reports, there was plenty of action at Greetland with the seconds also in action, losing 40-24 to Hunslet Warriors A in the Yorkshire Men’s League.

The firsts took a fourth-minute lead with a try from Alex Milburn, who gathered the ball on his own try line and went the length of the pitch. Cayci Pearson converted.

The visitors drew level on nine minutes when, following good passing, Andrew Muscat sold a dummy to score with Jordan Parker adding the extras.

Elland took charge with a four-try burst, Pearson converting three of them.

Jack Fairbank got the ball from dummy half and went over wide out; new signing Ben Anderson, son of former Halifax player and coach Tony, stepped through to score; Chris Dyson touched down from Junaid Malik’s good pass; and Chris Cullimore was sent in by new signing Anderson.

Elland extended their 26-6 lead four minutes after the break when Richard Crawshaw intercepted a Roosters’ pass on halfway and scored under the posts. Pearson converted.

Salford came back briefly with a try by Will Rigby converted by Jordan Parker.

When Crawshaw made a break but was caught short of the line, quick handling from Malik put winger Dyson in for his second.

Dyson broke through again three minutes later and slipped the ball inside for Cullimore to score with Anderson converting.

Two minutes later Ben Hinsley powered under the posts for a final converted try before Jordan Parker scored a late consolation for the visitors.
