Gareth Greenwood’s side had gone into the game level on points with their hosts, both having picked up 10 from their opening sevens games.

Siddal had flogged another Wigan side, St Judes, by 68-8 at Chevinedge the previous week but as expected this proved much tougher.

The visitors led 12-10 at half time and did just enough to thwart their hosts with another excellent display from Gareth Blackburn.

He followed up his 28-point haul against St Judes with a more modest but more important two tries and two goals.

Centre Scott Caley, winger Emmerson Newburn and second row Ross White got Siddal’s other tries.

The Clarington Park side’s points came from tries by centre Charlie Mitchell and forwards Liam Gannon and Simon Atherton with scrum half Bradley Smith kicking five goals.

There were mixed fortunes for Calderdale’s Division Two pair Elland and Ovenden.

Elland went points crazy for the second week running, following up their 62-0 win at bottom side Stanningley with a 60-22 drubbing of Askam at Greetland.

Karl Fairbank’s side are fifth, going above Ovenden on points difference after Gareth English’s side crashed 76-16 on the long trip to leaders Kells.

ILLINGWORTH have won the Pennine League’s Championship One section after a 6-4 success away to rivals Brighouse Rangers in Saturday’s crunch last-match decider.

The pair went into the game first and second in the table and with Illingworth needing only a draw to take the silverware.

Brighouse will have a quick chance of revenge when the clubs contest the Fee Halifax Cup final next Saturday.
