Green light for Fax game

Halifax RLFC's seasonal opener against Whitehaven at the Shay today (3.0) has got the go-ahead.

The club said the pitch had been declared fit this morning.

A relatively dry night means conditions have improved from yesterday, when FC Halifax Town’s FA Trophy game against Chester at the same venue was off. That game has been rescheduled for Tuesday evening.

One more casualty of the weather is the first Halifax-Huddersfield Alliance golf meeting at Hanging Heaton on Tuesday. The course is waterlogged.

Persistent rain took its toll on local football and rugby yesterday.

Brighouse Town’s game at home to Bamber Bridge was postponed at around 11am. Paul Quinn’s side will hope to return to action at Clitheroe on Tuesday.

Only four games took place in the Halifax Saturday League and none in the Premier Division.

Home fixtures for Old Brodleians and Old Crossleyans were late casualties of the weather.

However, Calderdale’s other four rugby union teams did play. Halifax lost at home to Bramley Phoenix and Old Rishworthians at Keighley but there were away wins for Heath at West Park Leeds and Yorkshire Four leaders Halifax Vandals at Burley.

In amateur rugby league, there were away successes for Stainland Stags, Greetland All Rounders and Ovenden while King Cross Park A beat Silsden 26-10 on Savile Park.
